Aergosians are the people of Aergoth, now widespread across Idryllia as a result of the Aergosian Empire's spread. Although they rose from the same basic human stock as the Wilderlanders, their divergence and culture makes them noticeably different.

Physical Characteristics[]

Aergosians are generally less physically built then Wilderlanders or Mariners. Years of “cultured” breeding to avoid distinctive Wilderlander traits have left most Aergosians as being dark of hair with blue or brown eyes. Aergosians on the whole tend to keep short cut hair, and neat facial hair arrangements, if any. Their garb tends to be basically practical for the poor or middle class, with more elaborate and ostentatious cuts for the rich, while still avoiding outlandish colours.

Culture[]

Aergosians tend to have a fairly rigid caste mindset, regardless of where they live. Some folk are perceived as lower and common, while riches and status mark others as highborn. Elevating oneself is possible, but not easy. The majority of Aergosians tend to work as merchants, or other non-combative trades. When they do engage in battle, they tend to use traditional and safe tactics, with basic sword, shield, and plate armouring as common equipment.

Religion[]

After abandoning the old ways (firstly the Elder Dragons, and then the later Elemental Worship that took their place), Aergosians next took up a period of near-worship of magic, until the demise of the Arcane Society. At that point, Ancestor Worship, although already the main pure religion, became absolutely dominant. In the post-Revenant Crisis world, along with the rise of the New Gods, Belinasa, Valar, and Wiladrin (to a lesser degree) are most common as patrons of Aergosians. A significant number also respect, if not outright worship Xan, despite his status as a Dark Power. Most of the New Church remnants (whether following Xan, or upholding the Church's actual doctrine) are also Aergosian.

Settlements[]

With Aergoth's destruction in theNight of Falling Stars, there are no strictly Aergosian settlements remaining. Nonetheless, owing to their widespread nature in past times, Aergosians are found in significant numbers across all human settlements. Southport and Last Cove are probably the most dominantly Aergosian settlements, though neither is strictly Aergosian in custom.

Relations with Other Races[]

Aergosians tend to be suspicious or derogatory of most other races, particularly non-humans, and especially Primordial Races. OF particular dislike are Laycinders and Beastmen, owing to Aergoth's years of war with both.

History[]

Age of Settlement[]

While the Draconic Races spread across Idryllia, the humans who would become the Aergosians remained to fortify and build their initial landing fort into a grand city. Owing partially to influences from the Dark Source, they became ambitious and proud, and started a campaign of aggressive expansion, pushing both Primordial Races and other Draconic Races out of their territory.

Age of Knowledge[]

Aergosians would dominate the Idryllian continent during this period, backed by the unrivalled Arcane Society. This would see new settlements of Aergosians spread across all of Idryllia, and even to the Western Isles. The end of the age would see a downfall in their fortunes, as the Arcane Society was cast down ad exiled, and other colonies lost to rebellion, Daemons, or simply a breakdown of communication.

Age of Wars[]

The main body of Aergosians would be locked in a long running, and often stalemated war with Laycin during this period. The settlements in the Western Isles fell to Daemons, and the northern Aergosians in Carpath fully rebelled.

Age of Cataclysm[]

The Night of Falling Stars would deal a final blow to the city of Aergoth, reducing the Aergosians to a decentralized race. The strongest groupings of Aergosians would at this time be found in the Dawn Legion and Valdrent, both composed of Northrealm stock (and mixed with Wilderlanders) long seceded from the empire.

Age of Reclamation[]

The surviving Aergosians at Aergoth's ruins would find themselves somewhat displaced, as the Mariner refugee fleet took control of Aergoth's ruins, establishing Solsguard. While some of the Aergosians remained as people in the city, many sought their fortunes elsewhere. Aergosians would form the vanguard of the New Church, their prejudices aligning well with its doctrines, but again suffered a defeat when the New Church was exposed as a tool of the Dark Source.

Age of Mortals[]

In the present Age, Aergosians are still commonplace in most human regions, but lack any dominant society.
