Baelgar, "The Noble Horn" when spoken of in unnamed terms, is one of ten Primordials that exist on the Idryllian continent. It often takes an aspect of a huge humanoid, with horns that provide it's namesake, and a variety of features assembled from mountainous animals. It is one of the few Primordials that tends to form or acquire weapons and knows their use well. Baelgar's contact with mortals is somewhat limited, as it was bound early in the Primordial Wars, and while released in the Age of Knowledge, spent its time largely amongst the Beastmen feuding with Varthiir until much later.
Persona And Relations[]
- While Baelgar is prone to the impulses and natural surges as are all Primordials, it is one of, if not the closest of them to seeking a stable order. Although violations of honorable conduct and attacks on his progeny and creations are prone to result in blind rage and rash action, this is a result of his desire for such, more than chaotic impulse.
- Baelgar is followed by the Morgrad beast men, its progeny race. It is venerated as a source of guidance, and a strengethener of purpose, and for aspects of craftsmanship. The Avanar and Fenrim also pay some adherence to this, while the Lopers are apathetic, and Skin Changers for the most part actively dislike the limited direction and discipline this offers. Stemming from his imprisonment at the hands of Thuala and Yvera, Baelgar holds an active hatred for the elves and only a slightly lesser one for dwarves (of which it does not particularly discern between Cloud or Mountain). It also harbors a strong enmity for the Dark Races, especially the corrupted Primordials that make up the Daemons and Felborne. Baelgar is also very much diamterically aligned with Ilphendar among his own kind.
History[]
The Lost Age[]
- When Varthiir consulted Xyntix in attempting to create a race to serve their means, the pair found that while Xyntix had knowledge, and Varthiir had raw power and desire, they lacked the innate capacity to construct and create something of permanence. Joined by Baelgar in their rituals, they were able to maintain their direction and purpose, and create the trio of Beast Folk.
Primordial Wars[]
- Enraged by the disrespect of Quarten and Madrium's attempt at diplomacy, Baelgar led a counter attack against the Draconic Forces. Initially quite succesful, it nonetheless would fall prey to an illusionary trap laid by Thuala and Yvera, resulting in Baelgar being cast deep into the Underworld and imprisoned.
Age Of Knowledge[]
- The Arcane Society of Aergoth used magic to open a gateway into an "Ether Pocket" as they called such things. For the purpose of draining the (not yet) Dry Lake. They accidently bored into Baelgar's prison, and the Primordial raged forth, slaying them. At first only able to manifest partially, it would eventually escape in full to challenge Varthiir for failing to seek the relese of its fellows.
Age Of Wars[]
- During the Age of Wars, the Beastmen were little exception. As the freed Baelgar raged against Varthiir for its apathetic attitude to the Primordial Prisons, so too did his Morgrad face Varthiir's progeny, only sometimes aided by the Avanar.
Age Of Cataclysm[]
- When Laycindarius desecrated (in the Primordials' eyes) the Temple of Keltraon, Baelgar was the one who pushed Varthiir into agreement to lead the Beastmen forth against this new foe. While falling short of their goal to kill Laycindarius and unseal Keltraon from the Prison in the temple's vault, the Beastmen's assault did prevent Laycin from overruning the entire southlands, and some folk pay homage to them for this effort.
Age Of Reclamation[]
- Baelgar intercepted the adventurers in Mardok with relative speed, but agreed to hear them out before engaging. Satisfied they brought no threat to its children, it negotiated instead that they would not bring any of theirs against the Beastmen in exchange for Baelgar's summoning of Varthiir.
Age Of Mortals[]
- Baelgar has returned to its role in the trio with Xyntix and Varthiir, providing a sense of purpose and a figurehead to the Beastmen. Unlike his compatriots, its pursues at least one specific vendetta, exterminating the last remaining Daemons that it sees as a blight on its race.
