The Forge Mountains are a range located in the northwestern portion of the Idryllian continent. They draw their name from the significant amounts of volcanic activity present amongst them. Despite this, the Brobdangeon of Crimson Crest, and the unified Khazadryn and Mordrakryn of Khazad-Mor have both made their homes amongst the mountains.
The mountains are notable for holding the prison of the Elder Dragon Khazad (somewhere below the city of Khazad-Mor) and the lair of the Elder Dragon Mordra. The Primordial Dangorm, patron of the Brobdangeon is locked away in an Ether Pocket that may have a gate somewhere in the mountains as well.
The mountains drive right to the northwest coastline, with few inlets to land ships (Khazad-Mor guards the main known one, just south of the city in the foothills). The western plains lie south of it, and Valdrent nestles in the lower hills of the eastern part of the range. The Lake of Fury (its own name due to volcanic expulsions into the waters) adjoins the southeast edge of the range.
The mountains are home to numerous unique fauna. Dragons of fire and earth aspects are fairly common amidst the peaks. Fire breathing magma lizards, sometimes trained by Brobdangeon, are also common. Large gryphons also live along the eastern edges (making the origin of Valdrent's banner). The mountain tunnels are also home to volatile sort of living ooze, which is known for being extremely flammable, and a valuable reagent for alchemists and mages, if it can be slain without igniting it explosively. The ooze is also known for escaping into the Lake of Fury, and occasionally washing up in lands beyond.
Plant life is a rarity amongst the slopes, making Khazadryn and Brobdangeon alike rely on hunting game either above or below ground. Underground farming of Underworld plants is performed by both, but neither has much success.
