Last Cove is a settlement on the far southeastern point of Idryllia. Originally known as Aquar's Landing in the Primordial Wars, it would be later claimed by Aergoth as an important port stop on the route to the Eastern Colony (Laycin). Most prominently, the town is the location of the Temple of the Seven.

History[]

Primordial Wars[]

During the Primordials Wars, the Elder Dragons Aquar and Nyrghaul launched an effort to open a new front on the entrenched Primordials. Using the ocean to circle behind the Beastmen forces, they landed at the location of Last Cove, establishing a fort known as Aquar's Landing. Nyrghaul would venture north to activate his Rift Device, bringing his Ghaulsyr and their Tower of the Sepulchre to Idryllia. The counter-attack of Varthiir and the Howlers would destroy much of the settlement, with only the Temple of the Seven holding out of the original fort. Eventually the Howlers would recede, when Varthiir directed its attention elsewhere and ceased dominating them.

Age of Settlement[]

The survivors would rebuild the village around the temple, but merely established a basic level of survival to their daily life. With the death or withdrawal of the Elder Dragons from most Idryllian affairs, the Temple of the Seven would seal its inner chambers, and form the beginning of the new Elemental Worship.

Age of Knowledge[]

Aergoth's expansion across Southrealm required an additional sea-born route for supplies to their Eastern Colony. Finding the small village, they would annex it, with the Arcane Society constructing a lighthouse there, making a final port of call before the Eastern Colony. Troubles would soon come, after the Arcane Society's portal was tapped into by Elemental Forces, and collapsed into the ocean. During the course of their adventures, the Companions would venture to Last Cove and enter the gateway to acquire a powerful source of Ether from the Water plane.

Age of Wars[]

Last Cove would go largely unvisited during the Age of Wars, and suffered from the drought that plagued much of southeastern Idryllia (now named the Southeast Barrens) due to the Arcane Society's draining of the Lake of Yrae into Dry Lake.

Age of Cataclysm[]

Last Cove would prove important in the Age of Cataclysm. Markus Khamar would wash up at the port, after days of riding an improvised raft when his ship was sunk by the returning Daemons. He would revisit the town with the New Companions to unseal the Temple of the Seven, and learn of the Elder Dragons, leading to their mission to find Aquar.

Age of Reclamation and Age of Mortals[]

With the Temple of the Seven revealed once more, a burgeoning religion burst forth led by Callium Theren, the former priest of the temple, now dedicated to Aquar (despite his apparent demise) teaching once more of the Elder Dragons. It has had limited success, with many visitors still clinging to the former Elemental Worship. Last Cove itself has benefited somewhat from the influx of pilgrims to the Temple, becoming closer to a full fledged city.

Government[]

Last Cove has little formal government. It simply runs on a mayor elected by consensus (presently Tomas Jarner, also the towns innkeeper), with advice from ranking citizens.

Resources[]

Last Cove also exists with relatively few resources. Minor lumber for the town comes from the few trees that survive in the southeast barrens, with ore quarried from the edge of the Bleeding Sun mountains (often with guards to thwart Howler attacks). The town's main industries of any note are a decent fishery and some diving for pearls or exotic shells.

Places of Note[]

Temple Of The Seven[]

Last Cove's primary attraction is the ancient Temple of the Seven. A major centre of both Elder Dragons and the Elemental Worship, it attracts pilgrims even from the far flung Northrealm .

The Shiprest[]

The towns inn, presently run by Mayor Tomas Jarner. It has a unique construction, being built entirely out of shipwrecked driftwood that collects in the towns harbour.

People of Note[]

Tomas Jarner The mayor of Last Cove, a Wilderlander. He notably also runs the local inn. Among the folk he is noted for his fair dealing, and carpentry.

Callium Theren[]

At onetime the head priest of the Temple, he has relinquished that post in his elder years. Half-Yveralisyr and half-Wilderlander he is nonetheless decently far from his deathbed. Since the return of the Temple to the Elder Dragons, he has become a devotee of Aquar, proclaiming that the Elder Dragon is not in fact deceased, but merely dispersed, and may be brought back with faith.

Yril Lartem[]

The present High Priestess, Yril is a Wilderlander born in Last Cove. She pays lip service to the Elder Dragons, but is subtly advocating a heresy of sorts, transcribing the principles of the Elements onto the New Gods.

Jerome Kaddas[]

A grizzled Mariner, he retired from the sea trade, and now runs Last Cove's port, such as it is. As such goes, he is also captain of the city watch.

Beren Iltlyn[]

Owner of a local curiosity shop, though most often found poring over the unsealed Temple articles. Beren is a Timekeepers (though he makes little or no mention of this to most). He's authored several essays and a short book on the Howlers, and their potential relation to the Goblyn race.
