The Northern forest is a vast tract of wilderness that covers the upper third (approximately) of Idryllia's Northrealm. It is bordered by Valdrent and the ocean on the west, the Frozen Strait and Icewall on the north, and the Sea of Shattered Ice and the Frostfangs on the east. The southern edge of the forest is the “green zone” of Northrealm, most obviously marked by Bilberry Hearth.
Settlements[]
- While not a nation in the strict sense, most of the southern and western parts of the forest are settled by Wilderlander Clanfolk and Villagefolk, with a centralization at Deepwood near the south-central edge.
- The cursed city of Ellondir can be found in the southwestern part of the forest (when it can be seen).
- The Druidic centre of Fyrelight Glade lies in the north-northwestern region of the forest.
- The Ivory Vale lies in the eastern part of the forest, near to the point where the Frostfangs meet the Sea of Shattered Ice.
- Yveralym, while semi-mobile, is often found in the northeastern part of forest.
- Myriad Goblyn entrenchments lurk throughout, but have a highest concentration in the southeastern part of the forest.
- The central part of the forest is largely unsettled, though many tales of Fey presence and even small settlements abound about it.
Denizens[]
- Wild game is frequent, including many species not found elsewhere. Wolves, Large bears, and a myriad of hunting cats roam the forests depths.
- Dragons are relatively rare, but a few do make their homes their.
- Treants' are an occasional menace to the unwary, though often spotted by those familiar with the terrain. Most notably, the Fyrelight Druids sometimes use them as guardians and watchmen.
- The Ganyd, a creature best described as a giant fast moving caterpillar, is a unique species to the forest, and while generally a scavenger, very dangerous when provoked.
- Toadstools (spoken with a very clear emphasis on the capital T) are an odder predator, lurking in caves, they emit spores that disorient and confuse prey until it blunders into the Toadstool. At which point a resin that is almost inescapable without aid. Despite this, they are harvested by intrepid individuals for this very resin (used in building, particularly by Yveralisyr), as well as a food delicacy.
