The Spine Range is a massive belt of mountains that splits Idryllia into Northrealm and Southrealm. Originally a place of rolling plains and small forest, inhabited by the roaming tribal bands of the Tel-Kabal, it served as the final battleground of the Primordial Wars, the mountains rising in a cataclysmic upheaval caused by the energies released by the deaths of Alestraxia and Kabal.
Treacherous and difficult to navigate, with only one major pass the Spine Ranges are effective at posing a barrier to invading armies and trade alike. The mountains unexpected rise also has an effect of lifting the warm southern winds up and over a wide stretch of land, creating the Frozen Belt of Northrealm.
The only above ground settlement within the Spine is the valley of Manae, home to the Knights of Alestraxia, and believed to be the Elder Dragon's grave site. Several known entrances to the Underworld exist within the range. It is also a popular spot for banditry and other unwelcome sorts to ply their raids along the passes. The Timekeeper monastery of Libris Secorum lies in the southeastern portion of the range, near to Laycin Forest.
