The Companions were a group of adventurers widely involved in major events that brought about the Downfall of the Arcane Society and ushered an end to the Age of Knowledge. Originally a mercenary team assigned to investigate troubles in Aergoth's mines , they would find themselves eventually entangled with the Arbiter Matthias, and working for the creation of The Shard.
Core Members[]
Adam Belamont Formerly a lieutenant in Aergoth's army, he resigned his commission rather then be conscripted into the Arcane Society (having some arcane talent, more notable in his son). Nominally the leader of the group, he was the co-founder along with Dorak T'rek. He perished facing Laycindarius in his sanctum beyond Arcan-Tor.
Dorak T'rek[]
A Tel-Kabal adventurer who travelled as a mercenary after the Tel-Kabal aligned with Aergoth, he would be hired alongside Adam in the early adventure to investigate a disturbance in Aergoth's mines. The only one of the core Companions who did not participate in the attack on Arcan-Tor, he would go on to lead his people's secession from the Aergosian Empire. In his latter days, he would perish fighting Dessecar.
Caleb Waters[]
A cleric of the Elemental Church in Last Cove, he would join the group seeking the source of the mysterious vision in the Temple's crystals. Despite his name, he served the Air element, and would eventually become a cleric of Yvera after the Companions met the Elder Dragon. His new anointment would be short lived, as he perished soon after facing Laycindarius.
Mikiro the Hellbent[]
When the band travelled to the Western Isles, seeking the origin of the Daemon invasion, they teamed up with this bounty hunter of Daemons. Claiming to hail from another eastern continent and have travelled back through an errant Arcane Society portal, he would nonetheless contribute his talents to the group. He would remain until being slain by Laycindarius in their last battle.
Tiana Loriane[]
A member of the Mundane Rebellion, a group active in Aergoth that protested (sometimes violently) the Arcane Society's growing dominance and in Aergoth's rule. She would join the other companions when they sought to infiltrate Tyrius Gadril's secret Cult of the Unspoken. Ultimately, Gadril would kill her, before being slain by the others.
Mariana Belamont[]
M'Yer'Ina was a Daiannar denizen of the Air plane. Rescued from impending execution by the Companions during their foray there, she would aid them in navigating the plane, being able to perceive the firmament within the plane, that allowed for walking. Later on she would be married to Adam at the Elemental Temple, and remained there to give birth to their son. The Shard's casting would have the side effect of returning elementals to their worlds though, leaving the orphan child behind.
Additional[]
Matthias[]
The Arbiter Matthias, while not a Companion on their general adventures, would nonetheless be the one who turned their investigation on Aergoth and the Arcane Society. He would continue to provide guidance to the group from the archives in the Tower of the Sepulchre.
Rojun Kardge[]
A Mordrakryn inventor (predating the Gear Gnomes proper), Rojun dwelt in the Forge Mountains, and constructed the Cloudbreaker vessel. He would operate the craft to allow the Companions to reach New Altalar, and later Arcan-Tor. His fate (and Cloudbreaker's) are unknown, but haven't been seen since
