The Thualisyr (Thuala's Servants) are one of Idryllia's two elven races. Pale white or grey skinned, they are termed the “Pale elves” or “Grey Elves”, and the “Dark Elves” by the Yveralisyr. While not inherently evil in nature, years of influence by the Dark Source have left them with a penchant for aggression and deceit.
Physical Characteristics[]
Thualisyr stand about the same height as humans. While originally the identical race as the Yveralisyr when the two were both Thualisyr, the curse visited on them by the Dark Source's release drained much of their colour. They now have pale white or grey skin (furthered by their residence underground) with similarly white or dark hair. A few Thualisyr (possibly having bloodlines of the un-cursed in their background) have traces of a bluish or red hair. Their eyes are similarly grey.
Culture[]
The Thualisyr culture is built on regaining their rightful place in the world. Honest efforts already consigned to failure, this has formed a culture of aggression, ambition, deceit, and manipulation. While not physically imposing, Thualisyr warriors tend to use poisons and ambush tactics. Assassination is a common tool as well, when victory can not be won in direct battle. Their trade and diplomatic dealings (both within themselves and other nations) are shrewd and manipulative. Thualisyr magic tends towards destructive efforts, or manipulating minds and illusions. Along with Laycinders they are also one of the few society's that continues to use Dark Ether in magic.
Religion[]
While not the most religious race at the best of times, Thualisyr follow a monotheistic worship of Thul'Masira. While her demise has left that shattered, those Thualisyr who are inclined to worship are rapidly transferring their allegiance to the New God Sil'Nasyr.
Settlements[]
The Thualisyr have, since their exile, remained at their largely underground Obsidian City, found within the Frostfangs in a large underground cavern (with a fortified exit onto the surface). Other then a few watch posts and forts (both on Idryllia's surface and in the Underworld) it remains their sole settlement.
Relations with Other Races[]
Thualisyr and Yveralisyr have an unwavering hatred of each other going back centuries (Even among the long lived elves, many have forgotten the full origin), with both considering the other betrayers.
While they have no particular conflict with other races, occasional efforts to expand their rule, and the latter Ages when Thul'Masira became a pawn of the Dark Source have left them with much distrust, if not outright hostility from most of their neighbours.
History[]
The Lost Age[]
The Thualisyr (at this point, a unified elven race) were created as servants by Thuala, Elder Dragon of Magic.
Primordial Wars[]
Some of the Thualisyr migrated to Idryllia with the first settlers, and more would come to join the conflict, often serving as Thuala's army as she and Yvera travelled to bind the Primordials. After one such excursion, Thuala and a near thousand Thualisyr were ambushed by Ilphendar and the Scaled Folk. During the battle, Thuala would inadvertently open the Ether Pocket containing the Dark Source. The power released in its escape would settle on the Thualisyr present, changing them to their current appearance.
Age of Settlement[]
When Thuala was exiled by the other elder Dragons, most of the afflicted Thualisyr chose to join her, believing her innocent of the charges. The unafflicted Thualisyr were conflicted , with some joining the Thualisyr (their colouring would be largely bred out over time) while the rest changed their allegiance to Yvera, becoming the Yveralisyr.
Age of Knowledge[]
The Thualisyr would prove to be one of the forces able to stop Aergoth's expansion in the Northrealm. Beyond that, they remained largely uninvolved in the greater events of the Age.
Age of Wars[]
Obsidian City would engage in attempts to conquer Telholme and the newly independent Carpath, without great success. Efforts against Yveralym would prove to be similarly halted by the treaty between Deepwood and the Yveralisyr.
When Xanatumyich the Destroyer led his army across Northrealm, the Thualisyr would join the Trifecta Army with Deepwood (minus the Yveralisyr) and Telholme against him. Fighting the climactic battle in the passes of the Frostfangs near to the gates of Obsidian City itself, Xan was defeated and imprisoned, and the Thualisyr seized the Dark Source's vessel from him for Thul'Masira.
Stormwind would come to the Thualisyr seeking an audience with Thul'Masira, but was first given the task of destroying Xan's imprisoned form, a task that had thwarted the Thualisyr in the war. Successful due to his possession of Xanatumyich's Skull (from his original mortal body), Stormwind would gain audience with Thul'Masira to further his quest of vengeance against Laycindarius.
Age of Cataclysm[]
Obsidian City was largely shielded from the Night of Falling Stars by virtue of being underground. While the Thualisyr did send forces to aid in the defence of the Second Daemon War, it was a clear token contribution.
Age of Reclamation[]
While initially aiding against the Dark Revenants in the Revenant Crisis, the Thualisyr would be redirected by Thul'Masira when she learned of the New Companions plan to banish the Dark Source. Venturing forth in their largest offensive ever, with Thul'Masira at their head, they attacked Valdrent, becoming involved in the climactic three-way battleground. Jeral Tarn's slaying of Thul'Masira would wreak havoc upon them, and the battered Thualisyr remnants routed back to Obsidian City.
Age of Mortals[]
The Thualisyr are once again confined in Obsidian City, and presently blockaded by Valdrent and the Dawn Legion. While the chances of an invasion ousting the Thualisyr on their home ground is slim, they are clearly threatened by retaliation for their effort at the end of the prior Age.
